They totally wimped out with this film. I don't want to go into details for fear of spoiling (although most of it is set out in the intro) but the book was far more intense. It feels like they've cut out all the gory details for fear off offending the audience. Imo, the real offence is in the assumption that we aren't mature enough to deal with the situation.
Definitely read the book first if you are interested in this movie.

The Book Was Amazing. The Movie Sort Of Fell Off.
