I’ve been a fan of Michelle’s since the 1st F&F, Resident Evil (huuuge sci-fi nerd here LOL), and Blue Crush but it was only recently that she popped up on my radar again. I’m a graduate student and one of my media classes had us pondering gender roles in film & television.

I seriously couldn’t think of ONE actress who conveyed all the qualities (that Michelle speaks about in Women in Film) that you see in the real world- other than Michelle. The women in my circle of friends enjoy car racing, sci-fi, video games, etc. but you rarely see that side of women portrayed in the media. Instead, you see either watered down 50’s-era caricatures or sluts (check out VH1 if you don’t know what I’m talking about- Rock of Love ugghh
complete backstep for women everywhere & yet look at all the women who support it, it’s baffling!! )

I find Michelle a refreshing *spark* of unique interest and FEMININE strength. Watching her has helped me unleash my OWN inner strengths…it’s a daily inspiration that YES, I’m this little woman but I can work my ass off at the gym just like the guy next to me and if he thinks he has the right to look me up & down sexually- just because- then I have the same right to tell him to f*ck off. I’m enamored with her courage, openness, and friendliness (and willingness to show her STRENGTH without cowering under the pressure) & that she’ll tell the paps to eff off if they’ve crossed the line and especially that she’s not afraid to behave unladylike or take tough roles.

And the most interesting thing I’ve found in studying her “relationship” with today’s audience is that there are men and even women who are inexplicably infuriated or even *intimidated* by her roles. They want to write her off as a one-trick pony or say her tough chick act is butch or mannish. But she’s not manly AT ALL. She’s just being REAL in fake, brushed-up, PRed, plastic, celebrity obsessed culture.

I’m kind of shocked at myself for joining a fan forum (def a first for me) because I’m not into the whole “let’s lick this celebrity’s ass just for the heluvit” kinda deal. But I’m so convinced that a CHANGE is needed and that girls need new role models other than Paris and Brittney that I want to show my full support for amazing actresses like her who are basically trailblazers in a male dominated, fantasy fueled industry. (sorry guys but like it or not, it's true) I’m so SICK of bloggers and media types making nasty judgments and innuendos just because of the types of roles she chooses.

We should ALL be outraged because it only hinders progress for the portrayal of women in film which actually has an enormous impact on society, how men treat women in general, how we determine our own sense of self worth etc.

Not many actresses are EAGER to take such roles (unless they throw on a dress or somehow “sex it up”) BECAUSE of the backlash. And it seems not many scripts are written with these kind of roles in mind…which is sad. I say Bravo to Michelle for giving us a light in the darkness and brightening that path so that more women are willing to step out of the archaic stereotypes and into the 21st century. And Thank You for being an inspiration in my own life

Thanks to everyone for your welcome... I love how this place is full of energy & life. It's very different from a few other celeb websites I've explored. You're doing a great job here Leigh! I hope Michelle appreciates all the hard work and passion you've obviously put into creating this "mecca" for her fan base.
