I think Whoopi Goldberg said it best on "The View". He's just a kid. It isn't like he was slingin' a Kilo of blow or anything.What I find funny about this situation is that they want to press charges of him smoking weed in a picture when you have people doing it for real in music videos/movies. The only reason why they are making such a huge deal is because Phelps won 8 medals for the USA and therefore people just assume that he should be an upstanding grade A citizen that would do no wrong.

Let it be a rapper or someone that people expect to be doing it and you won't even be getting a waste of energy from the media about it.

I think it's really blow out of proportion. So what, he smoked weed. So have 70% of the rest of the country. Part of the problem is that they want to make an example. Though really, what harm will become of him from smoking it? It's not like alcohol where it rapidly changes your mood into something violent. You're lucky to find your own feet, and not laugh your ass off.
