Title: S.W.A.T.
Description: Official Discussion Thread
Leigh - July 29, 2006 11:12 PM (GMT)
So....just found out some info from this article online. Can't find it now....figures. ANYWAY....turns out that S.W.A.T. actually was very different from the original script. Sam Jackson had signed on to do the film when the script ORIGINALLY called for the team to get trapped trapped inside a downtown ghetto tenement with Alex, while all the inhabitants turn against them for the $100 million. Apparently in an effort to accomodate Colin Farrel (not sure how or why), they changed the whole layout of the film....and he (Sam) was less than thrilled....but stayed with the project.
And....they ALMOST made a sequel in 2004/2005. Apparently around Spring 2004 Sam, Clark Johnson (the director) and the entire rest of the cast, were all on board and eager to do a sequel. Problem? Universal. They were so damn hesitant which is shocking since S.W.A.T. made like a $65 million profit for them! WTF?! Why you ask? B/c....at that time Universal was apparently struggling with their tv spin-offs and poor test screening of other films....so they were scared as heck to do any sequels or "risks"....so instead they choose to dump more money into fixing 'Van Helsing's flaws and dropped the idea of spending $100 million on a S.W.A.T. sequel.
Let's hope since they've done pretty well and had some hits lately they'll get a clue and maybe consider a second one now that Sam has this 'Snakes' buzz, Colin is back on the Map b/c of 'Vice' and Michelle is still big news b/c of Lost and such. This would be the perfect time so long as Colin and Michelle aren't tired of the gun-toting cop thing, which it seems she at least is....*sigh*

Basically it's just like....an apartment building.

That does sound soo cool.
allaboutangel - July 30, 2006 12:14 AM (GMT)
i wonder why Colin would have asked for something like that
thats probably rumours being passed on so much that now its nothing at all close to truth
i mean, Clark said on the commentary that Sam signed first, and the minute he had, Colin was straight on paper afterwards
and then the rest followed
so why they'd wanna completely redo the movie just for him seems odd to me. also, i prefer it the way it was made, to them being stuck in an apartment building. cause like, how much can you really do to protect yourself in one of those, especially if youre halfway up or anything
and yea, how stoopid are Universal not to have picked up a sequel, especially if they were all willing to come back to the characters?!?! :o
i cant hate Universal though - they made Serenity, when they really didnt have to, so i cut them some slack.
but to waste money to finance Van Helsing, which was such a major flop is so weird :ph43r:

I'm thinking perhaps when the studio signed Colin perhaps they reworked it in a way that would flatter him more. They might have prefered to have it be different so it worked with what they saw him and the story as after they got him you know? Perhaps Colin had nothing to do with it. It just said it was reworked for Colin, not neccessarily b/c of him. Sometimes roles and scripts are adjusted to better fit the actor.

From what I could pay attention to in the boring film, lol, was Colin kind of being the central figure in the movie. It was about Sam's character convincing the wayward cop to become SWAT (against the wishes of his superiors) because he was ALL THAT. And you had that continued as a theme with him rejecting it at first, then running into an old friend that he ratted out, then that same friend being one of the bad guys. So I would say it was changed to accomodate Colin's character as a catalyst for conflict. I could see Sam being pissed about the premise he signed-on to do being changed for another actor. At that time Colin was really an up and coming star, there was alot a buzz about him. Sam was just a nice to have household name, but Colin was the diamond in the rough.
Michelle and Colin, the way they seem to enjoy the pleasure of each others company, you would think they would jump at the chance to work together again.

I would give my left and right arm for a SWAT sequal!! Oh how I wish they would do it! This time with a great sex scene between Sanchez and Street!!!

To be honest i'm not that interested in a sequel :ph43r:
She has already proved she looks good in an uniform and can shoot a gun...

Trapped in a tenement? Sounds like a Season 1 "Miami Vice" episode I had once watched called "The Maze". I'm sorry for Sam Jackson, but I'm glad they didn't go through with it.
LettyRocks - August 6, 2006 10:28 PM (GMT)
Go to the second page of the Special Features, select "6th Street Bridge.", press right twice and down twice. This will highlight Samuel L. Jackson's cap. Press OK and you will be taken to the S.W.A.T team and crew playing golf.
OMFG! This is sooooo funny! Michelle TRYING to golf! So cute!
Golf is a HARD game to play, believe me. Michelle, you go girl! for at least trying! B)
Leigh - August 7, 2006 01:50 AM (GMT)
Yep. I gotta say that was literally one of the funniest damn things I've ever seen.
My mother used to love to golf so she sort of got me into it a bit....well, if you count "getting into it" as throwing your club halfway across the fairway b/c you just hit the ball into the water for the 3rd time in a row. I've broken a few clubs in my day....and crashed a couple golf carts....:D
Anyway, I like to golf SOMETIMES....it's never "relaxing" for me as I wind up doing what Michelle did and searching for my ball half the time....but to me that "adventure" is part of the fun. I've had some CRAZY ASS times on the golf course man, let me tell you.
So watching her do that was hilarious to me. Funny....Michelle can conquer anything physical it seems so that tickled me to see her suck so bad....but hey I bet if she really learned she'd do fine. Golf is never easy to people who've never played before. :P

allaboutangel - August 7, 2006 10:35 PM (GMT)
yea found this we thing before, we were talking about it. its frickin class. makes me laugh everytime i see it :D
She's so cute being cr*p at golf! :P
was just her against Sam really, cause none the other actors seemed to be there. it was mostly crew
but the commentary was hilarious!
think golf is so boring though.....
theres another easter egg on page one, can anyone else remember what is it? i always forget....
Julz whats wrong with your friend that its taking her so long to realise how awesome Michelle is!? :brow: lol

LettyRocks - August 7, 2006 11:14 PM (GMT)
Oh, hell yeah. The guy doing the commentary for the golf is HILARIOUS!! He totally makes fun of Sam Jackson and everyone. lol.
Michelle is so funny in this. You can tell she is frustrated. She's like "Patience is something I lack at 24 years of age." Lol.
My boyfriend golfs all the time. He's in leagues and stuff. One time I went with him and his friends and it was too funny. They were all drunk and my one friend Larry almost flipped his cart. lol. And my other friend Matt, when he gets frustrated he throws his clubs across the green. LOL. It's quite funny.
Leigh - August 7, 2006 11:59 PM (GMT)
Yes. Golf cart crashing is fun. Because quite frankly one can feel very talented and accomplished if one can somehow wreck a "vehicle" that tops out at 4 miles per hour. Trust me I know. I've taught a few trees and bushes who's boss in my time. And then there was that one time by the little lake....:D
Anyway....Julz! You go recruit more Michelle fans baby, yeah! That's right! Just warn her....once she checks into the Michelle fandom hotel....she doesn't check out. It's weird.....it's inescapable once you get sucked into the Michelle-lovin world. :P

LettyRocks - August 8, 2006 12:05 AM (GMT)
Lol. How about golf fights? lol. My old manager told us a story about this one time he went golfing and ended up in a fist fight with another guy like the first hole they teed off on! And this is like a 38 year old guy were talkin about!
"Fore!" :o
lacyjo92 - August 8, 2006 12:42 AM (GMT)

caramel199012 - August 8, 2006 01:26 PM (GMT)
hee hee that is class lol i love the comentator dude ha ha lol such a funny video lol
Leigh - August 8, 2006 01:42 PM (GMT)
LMAO! Caps. Cool.
Anyway....she looks so damn cool and like casual in that 2nd pic....
....and then the humiliation begins. :D
She looks like she's trying to beat the hell out of the ball. The point is to smoothly hit in in one smooth motion....not attack it like it's evil, Michelle. Love it!
She just needs someone to show her how to hit once or twice and I'm sure she'd get it. She's got a great ability to master physical things. If she can dance and do sports and fight and such then no doubt she could learn the proper form whilst swinging. Those who can't....teach. So let's hit the course Mitchy Mitch. ;)

She is charming as ever ;)
Leigh - August 8, 2006 01:50 PM (GMT)
Yeah, it's adorable. Makes you kind of want to just pat her on the head and go 'aww'....even if it means you get shoved to the floor. :D

i am workin very hard at it...see my friend is a lesbian so i first pulled her in with that breed promo pic... ;)
then whenever we talked online i would share pics with her that were on here or MRU...and also show her quotes from michelle...which my friend, being a feminist as well, loved to death...
last night we watched my taping of IGPX...a week ago we watched resident evil and then watched it again with commentary (she of coursed loved milla hittin on michelle)...she also watched girlfight with me and said it was now one of her favorite films...
next up is SWAT...and ill be sure to show the golf part to her...
basically the only thing left for her to do before she is official is join this forum... :D
once she is completely turned i move on to a new friend...then another...and soon the world!!!
Nugs - August 9, 2006 07:00 AM (GMT)

LettyRocks - August 9, 2006 10:17 PM (GMT)
Omg. lol. I just sat down and watched this again. As funny as everyone is to begin with, the commentator I think is what really makes it. That guy is truely hilarious! He's like "That's another one of Sam Jackson's many talents, creative gold scorekeeping." Lol!! And "Speaking of excuses, that guy needs one." lol.
Oh my. ROF. & LMFAO.
lacyjo92 - August 9, 2006 11:03 PM (GMT)
hmm..i watched all the special features on mine and i didnt see anything about the golf part...can you clip it leigh?
DarkHuntress - August 18, 2006 01:13 PM (GMT)
Hmmm golf... Everytime I think of golf now I see my uncle at Pebble Beach place driving the golf cart...
He was really happy to be there cause he always wanted to go there for a week to golf, and my aunt surprised him on his birthday so he went.... He went into la la land while he was driving, and he was just... so happy to be there so he wasn't paying attention.... Well he drove into one of those bushes.. and then proceeded to try to hide the fact by sticking some of the branches back into the ground.
