Title: October 29, 2007
Description: Letter to the judge.

Leigh - October 29, 2007 11:15 PM (GMT)
Michelle would like to share the following letter she wrote to the judge who recently sentenced her to 180 days in jail.

October 29, 2007

They say with great loss comes a sense of appreciation, I found this to be true growing up. When I moved here to Hollywood California four years ago with prosperity in my pocket, I briefly lost that sense of awe and appreciation for everyday life...excess became, what seemed at the time, my only remedy... Yeah, it took me a lot of falls to wake up, breathe, and appreciate again. I recall in my first interview, the reporter asked me: "Is there anything else you want to say to people about yourself that I haven't covered", and I said: "Yeah, Leave room for mistakes, I'm Human." Those words have resonated with me more than ever in the last four years. I believe everyone has a peak evolutionary level to grow from, individual and distinct to their own experiences in life. Personally for me, I don't know if it was the loss of material objects; my house, my cars, my bank account, the notoriety in my career, or the almost two years of not doing what I love because my peers deemed me 'too irresponsible to work with'... I do know one thing, I have evolved since then. I may not be a good time keeper and I may have punctuality issues and many other positive traits I'm tardy in acquiring, yet I have to say above all, I have gained a good moral grounding, I take responsibility for my actions, and I'm far from being an ill willed, ignorant, or a sneaky human in any way. The hardships and growing pains that I have lived do not complete the equation of who I am. I am incredibly grateful that no one was harmed but me in this long process of awakening as I am deeply sorry to all my family, friends, coworkers and fans that have been let down by my slow growth process.

At this point I can only plea at the mercy of this court and the people, that the repercussions of my past actions do not affect the work, livelihood, and sustenance I provide for myself and my family dependent. I have reached the end of my rope with regards to my career. It has taken me two years to slow down and pay attention. My peers have begun to take notice of this change and have called me back to a position in society as a working class citizen. I only ask knowing I have been given many chances to follow the structure and guidelines provided, and I am well aware of my actions and their possible repercussions. My plea to this court and the people is merely that my debts to society do not interfere with my livelihood or that of my family dependent.

I have mixed feelings about this statement, some good and some bad. I’ll keep them to myself as I feel this forum is too overly biased to view the statement objectively.

I will say this though; it seems that she has missed the mark. I understand what she is trying to convey only because I’ve been in her position before.

The verbiage doesn’t do enough or is worded in a way as to misdirect the reader from its true intent; and that intent is to show remorse.

pitdroid3 - October 30, 2007 01:36 AM (GMT)
I partly agree with you Tom, but I also feel like Michelle doesn't want to ask the judge directly for leniency, it might seem she is trying to get out of doing time, when in fact she seems to want to do whatever it takes to prove that she is willing to finish any punishment they give her in order to prove her sincerity. Like with Paris Hilton or other celebrities getting out of jail because they have great lawyers or whatever, she wants to say (and this is just conjecture) to say that she knows she is guilty and will accept whatever punishment they give her just so when it's over she can say to them "Look, I did what you asked me too without complaint" and hopefully have everyone move on.

She mentions that she is not a good "time-keeper", I assume as a reference to the supposed missing day of community service, but she doesn't try to argue it with the judge.

Leigh: When did she send this? Was it presented at her hearing or was it just mailed out or something? :brow:

Maritza Roman - October 30, 2007 01:46 AM (GMT)
^^I agree with both of you's...to me  Michelle is proving her guilt and I am really curious about this...I heard in the show that I see she says that punishment doesn't teach her anything... :o :brow:

That was a beautifully written letter -- raw and sincere. Ironically, in response to some of the comments here, she is always honest in her comments, yet this is the most open I have seen her be, not to mention remorseful and apologetic. And I appreciate that. What more can we as fans ask for? Well, I know, I want her to do what she needs for herself so she can put this behind her and move on with her life and career. It's like she got one step ahead and got pulled two steps backwards, and the cycle continues. We all experience that in life to some degree until we wake up and say how the f do I get off this wheel. So regardless of impact of this letter on the judges decision, the fact that she's so honest about her flaws and how she has contributed to her misfortune shows much personal growth. All the apologies in the world don't mean a thing until you can't be honest with yourself.

And if that fails, I say that this judge should be among the first batch of people to be tarred and feathered when the revolution comes. Who's with me!?!?!?! :soapbox:

Nugs - October 30, 2007 04:13 AM (GMT)
like mr said life is school for the soul, she's still on her quest for knowledge. this will only make her, (and us) stronger.

but it still f*ckin sucks

I got excited when I saw that there was a new post here. Then I saw the letter. It's too bad that letters such as those rarely affect the outcome of sentencing or anything.

Good luck to her in all that she does. She has one hell of a brain between her ears, that's for sure.

This letter says so much about her.

Michelle you don't need to apoligize to your fans we understand that we are all human and we all make mistakes. I love the fact that after going through all of what you are going through and as busy as you are you still take the time to come on here and post a letter that you have written for the judge. I think its important to never forget where you come from and I believe that you have kept your morals and your life lessons and not forgotten where you came from. In reallity that is what make people like me and other ones on this forum like you so much. You are true to yourself and that is the key in life I believe. When you stand on your own to feet and have a strong belief in yourself you can accomplish your goals. No one can take your history from you and that is a good thing b/c in the end again that is who makes you as a person. With out all the litlle bumps you would not be the person you are today. With much Love and Respect Kat.

Meaningfully apologizing for what she has done, or for the pain that she has inflicted on her loved ones and fans, is another big step in her personal and inner growth. I believe that by now she has a fully grown mentality and is a deeper and more mature woman.

She has always been good in expressing herself, but this letter and its apologetic and self-conscious content are a reason for us, and even for her, to be proud of, more than ever before.

Perfectly said Minx:
