Title: GIRLFIGHT - 10th Anniversary DVD?
Description: How would it sound?

Yaya - August 18, 2007 09:54 AM (GMT)
Hmmm....

What DO you think?

Like with NEW special features and everything, maybe even commentary from you-know-who. I say: HECK YES!

If all or a few of the options, tell why.

I think that'd be a great idea, though unlikely. It was always crazy to me that the DVD didn't include Cole's "I Can Do Too" music video featuring Michelle, more behind the scenes, etc. etc.

In fact they could always re-interview Michelle and Karyn now and have them reminisce on the experience. Also there's footage out there of the Cannes Film Festival that year in France (like featured on Icons). To me that kind of content would be fantastic to include. Show footage from Sundance, Cannes, etc., feature new interviews with Michelle and Karyn, more old behind the scenes footage, do a new solo-commentary with Michlle, and include the music vid. Plus spiff up the picture and sound quality of course and they'd have a badass re-release.

My only concern would be would Sony be willing to put that kind of time and money into re-releasing a small-at-the-time indie? Highly doubtful. True, by the time it'd release (2010) Michelle will have long-since launched her line and had her new films released. She'll be on the up and up and so it would definitely sell to some degree....but I just don't see them doing it. It wasn't a huge film...but then again neither was Resident Evil when you really think about it. But RE has a cult audience and is a trilogy hence the 3 DVD versions released so far. But anyway....as much as I'd love it, I just doubt it unless Michelle hits mega status by then and Sony sees a decent amount of $$$ behind jam-packing it and heavily advertising it as "Michelle Rodriguez's Debut Performance 10th Anniversary!"

I wish they would, but I won't put all my hopes into it, not yet anyway. I'm going to wait and see where Michelle's "star status" is post-Avatar/Ishkidada release and then start really hoping if by that time it seems more realistic.

By the way, the best thing you guys could do would be to wait a couple years then start writing to Sony and asking for this. You could just drop them some emails/letters asking for one with a new solo-Michelle commentary, new interviews, more old footage including the festivals, and the music vid. If they see an audience desire, they might be more apt to seriously consider it. OR, you could do that now. Who says it has to be a 10th anniversary. You could just start a campaign asking for just a regular old new version re-release.

Here's what I'd like to see that we didn't get:

Bloopers
Deleted Scenes
Michelle Rodriguez solo-commentary
Cannes and Sundance Festival Footage
Cole's "I Can Do Too" Music Video
More Behind the Scenes Footage
New Karyn Kusama and Michelle Rodriguez Interviews

I think at least a longer "Making Of" would go on it. The one featurette they have is really short.

I'm going to try and search the company address, and see what I can do. I really don't know how to start a petition but I'll search that too. Defenitely some old footage I would like to see, espeacially bloopers. And that Cole video can't be found anywhere. MICHELLE COMMENTARY! Fo-sho.

I can really vision it and everything about it, but I doubt it also. But know one knows what 3 years of petitioning can do. Hopefully her "star status" is some-what reasonable by then. And "Girlfight: The 10th Anniversary" can be a Limited Edition situation, where they only put out like 250,000 - 500,000 copies, if that. I really don't know how the DVD copy situation works.

Sony better take it into consideration. Because I'm about to take this seriously. I freaking love that movie.

As much as it pains me to agree with Leigh yet again (sometimes I feel like she writes out my thoughts so I end up reading my thoughts instead of hearing them in my head :D), I'd love to see such a DvD released, but I unfortunately doubt it will come to pass.

The movie is great and it does have some pretty hardcore fans, but unfortunately it's not as marketable as some other movies. Take Star Wars for example. I'm sure they could make some Star Wars looseleaf paper with the logo on the wrapping, not even on the paper itself and you could sell it double the price of regular paper. So when they release a new Star Wars DvD, either remastered or even just normal, they don't only make money on the DvD itself, but they also cash in on all the other merchandise that comes with Star Wars rebecoming popular.

Oh, speaking of the Cole video, I tried watching it on the site and it's not working. :(

Exactly. WE love this film, sports movie enthusiasts like the film, critics love it, people who like female-empowering films love it, indie circles love it, but does a mass audience? No. But only b/c they've probably never even heard of it. And those who have heard of her, many of them won't see it b/c they only know her as "that chick from Lost I hated" so it would be hard to market to a new wave of people. And that's all a studio thinks about. It's $ above all. So I don't see it happening, UNLESS like I said you guys got a big ole campaign going and get all those people who do like it together.

Yaya, they say that one letter represents 500 others who have the same opinion, so you get a "write to" address/email and get at least 500 people to write/send an email and also get a petition with 500-1,000 legitimate signatures and send it out next year, I'd say you might at the very least make them even slightly consider it. I'm not trying to give false hope. I'd say you have like a 1% chance of getting this to happen. BUT, never say never. If I were you I'd do something starting now and really get to pimping it after "Battle" releases and especially once/if we get word whether she's doing a 4th TFATF. I'll help out in any way I can if someone wants to do it. But my thing is I won't lend my time to anyone's effort who has no plans of following through. It's one thing to get all excited and start an online petition, it's a whole other to go around pimping it everywhere that it would be received for the next 2-6 months and then at the most opportune moment, sending it in. You gotta be committed to the cause. It's tough and long sometimes.

I started a campaign to save this one show that got the axe a few years back. Eventually a group of chicks came in and wanted to merge efforts so we did and they pushed me out and then took total credit, but originally I created the first campaign and even got the attention/correspondence of the executive producer of the show who dropped me some emails and such. I just sort of dropped it b/c there was no place for me anymore since the chicks in charge became more about getting attention and credit than seeing through the cause, but the campaign (with new leadership) pushed on which was all that mattered and eventually they got ABC to put the rest of the show out on DVD! It was a small show with an even smaller audience but we pushed hard enough long enough to get them to cave and if not renew it, at least give us the last 6 unseen episodes. So never say never. It's a David vs Goliath gig so, best of luck if you do. And if you do and you're committed, I'll help in any way that I can (advising, looking for contacts, advertising, etc)....just let me know.
