Well No ones offering so I guess I'll go first..
The last book I read was called " Broken China" ( Can't remember the Writer)

In this book, this 14 year old girl had a 2 year old baby girl in the hood part of Texas.
One day the baby gets really sick and then eventually dies. In the Process of Copping this all. The 14 year old girl Ends up quiting school to pay the baby'd funeral bills by working at a strip joint..a lot of chaos goes into the story in between all of this, Witch made it such a good story to read. I read this book in a day.

I book i just recently read was criminal minded by Tracy brown.

This is a story about a man named Lamin who tries to make something of himself while living in a terrible neighborhood. When his cousin gets arrested for killing someone he meets a guy named zane and they become real good friends. Lamin also falls in love with a girl named lucky. Lamin is on top of the world with a successful record label and a beautiful wife. But sooner or later all hell starts to break lose when his cousin gets out of jail. This is a very good story. I finished the whole book in one day...:)

TigerLily - June 5, 2007 04:44 AM (GMT)
Well right now I'm reading No Logo by Naomi Klein, which is pretty much an anti-corporate book that covers culture jamming, consumerism, etc. etc. It's really interesting, a huge eye opener.

I also recently read Acceleration by Graham McNamee, which is more of a teen book, I guess. This guy has a summer job working at the lost and found of the Toronto Transit Authority (I think it's like the Subway in NYC) who comes across the diary of a serial killer. It's cool because it reads like a movie (if that makes any sense), all action but it's really good.

Minx - June 7, 2007 11:36 PM (GMT)
I Read " Push" By Sapphire

Its about this girl who doesn't have a good education, she lives in NY, Both of her parents rape her..( Her dad gave her HIV)
This Explains why she had a retarded baby at the age of 12, and another baby at the age of 16.
Her Mom Beats her.
Her Mom takes the Money she gets from welfare for her baby
but Her first child doesn't even live in the girls Mothers house hold.
She gets kicked out of school.

Everything Changes for her once she enters an Alternative school and seeks help from her mentors and new family.

Loved it!

Ok.. so im a huge fan of books.. So basically this thread is all about books that we've read already or planning to read.. and then maybe you could give your own review and make some suggestions with what books are worthy to read. Below are the books I've read.

1.Veronika decides to die by Paulo Coelho
2.Like a river Flowing By Paulo Coelho

*Paulo Coelho is a fantastic writer... he knows exactly how to press certain buttons and make people realize things about life.

3.Angels and Demons by Dan Brown
4.the Da Vinci Code By Dan Brown

* For me Angels and Demons is much better than Da Vinci Code. I couldn't stop myself from reading Angels and Demons, Da Vinci Code bored the hell out of me!

5.Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas

* This is one of my favorite books ever. I don't know maybe its because I'm into revenge and stuff like that. The book is full of anger. not that i'm full of anger too, i just like the idea of it.

6. Murder in Spokane

*Now this is a scary book since its based in true events. Its about a series of murder in Spokane that lasted for years and the number of murdered women just kept on rising. Great book!

7. Brotherhood of the Rose by David Morell

*First book I ever read. All about two orphans who grew up together and were trained to be assassins. All about trust and betrayal. A little bit boring but the idea of betrayal on how it went around the story kept me intrigued.

8. To kill a mockingbird by Harper Lee

*Great book. About racism and other intellectual issues. I like it a lot.

9. The Rescue by Nicholas Sparks
10. The notebook By Nicholas Sparks
11. The Wedding by Nicholas Sparks

*Nicholas Sparks writes good romantic novels. I specifically loved The wedding. Its so romantic and it defined true love perfectly. it bought out my hopeless romantic side.

Now there are still other books i've read long before that i can't remember the titles. I'm looking for another book to read now that i just finished reading Paulo Coelho's Like a river flowing..

Any suggestions to read? I can't remember this book about a girl having multiple personality.. its based on true events as well.. its a psychological book.. anyone knows this book? Geez long post! Sorry..

I love To Kill a Mockingbird. Read it in high school and loved it. I should re-read it. I think I'd appreciate it even more in my older years, lol. Atticus Finch, hehe.

Um, oh, And I absolutely LOVE The Notebook. Saw the movie and then read the book. I have The Wedding also, but didnt get too far into it. IT's about Noah/Alli's kid's wedding, right?

Anyway, also have Riding In cars with Boys, which is great (both movie and book). Stephen Kings -The Shining, Howard stern's -Private Parts, and The 9/11 Commision Report, which I've briefly skimmed through. I felt it's something I had to own though.

I like books. I should read more, but there's only so much time for stuff. I've been writing again though, which is good. Good outlet for all sorts of emotions.

Lord of the Flies- Read it in Junior High, loved it. You can't read it without picking either Jack or Ralph's side. Me? I'm a Jack girl :D

Crime and Punishment- Once again, read it in Junior Hugh, absolutely adored it. Once you get passed the uber russian names, its a fantastic read.

The Metamorphosis- Read it one summer. It's fantastic. I can't praise it enough.

The Sorrows of Young Werther- French existentialism at its best. By the end, you really think hell is other people, and there is no spoon!

pitdroid3 - June 24, 2007 03:14 AM (GMT)
Animal Farm The failings of Communism presented in the form of one seriously screwed up anthropomorphic fable.

World War Z: The Oral History of the Zombie War A fake "true story" made up of dozens of accounts of how people survived the rise of the undead, stemming from the first outbreaks, the war and into the recovery. Some stories are downright scary, some are heartbreaking, some are hilarious or touching. One story is told by a chinese doctor who found the first zombie, it's continued in the story of a foriegn surgeon who explains (to the author) that the chinese government routinely sold organs harvested from their "political prisoners" on the black market, and that is how the zombie plague spread all over the world. Other stories include the pharmaceutical kingpin who promoted a "vaccine" to the plague, that in fact did nothing but make him rich. I could go on and on, I have read this book twice. Some stories made me laugh out loud while one in particular made me cry.

A Hymm Before Battle An alien confederation is getting it's collective ass handed to them, and they are forced to turn a race of backwards savages for help (that's us folks). They will only help us as much as it suits them, so while humans fight their war, they secretly strive to keep us down. Written by an actual soldier (John Ringo was an airborne ranger). Filled with incredibly detailed military know-how and sci-fi lore. I have read it at least four or five times.

Sharing with you guys some of my favorite excerps from Paulo Coelho's book "Like a river flowing"...

"Somtimes the world asks us to fight for the things we do not understand, and whose significance we will never discover"

"You cannot judge the beauty of a particular path just by looking at the gate"

"We see the evil in others because we know the evil in ourselves. We never forgive those who wound us because we believe we will never be forgiven. We say the painful truth to others because we want to hide it from ourselves. We show our strength, so that no one can see our frailty"

"We must have an awareness of death in order to fully understand life"

"So often in our lives, we are crumpled, trampled, ill-treated, insulted, and yet, despite all that, we are still worth the same".

"It is part of human nature always to judge others very severely and, when the wind turns against us, always to find an excuse for our own misdeeds, or to blame someone else for our mistakes"

That's all as of the moment.. :) Looking forward for your favorite book quotes.. ;)

Title: A Swiftly Tilting Planet

Author: Madeleine L'Engle

Description: Meg Murry O'Keefe and her family are just sitting down to Thanksgiving dinner when her family get a call from the White House about a mad mans threat of nuclear war. Only an old Irish rune seems to hole a clue to averting worldwide disaster. When Meg's brother Charles Wallace, now fifteen, recites it, a radiant white beast--the unicorn Gaudior--appears, to join him on his quest. But there are only twenty four hours in witch to prevent the tragedy Can Charles Wallace, with the help the help of Gaudior and Meg, possibly succeed?

My take on the book: Its amazing! Its one of those books that you'll have to read slowly to keep up with and pay really close attention to to understand because it is an advanced readers book. I've read it 3 times and every time its full of shockers and beautiful descriptions in the writing. I HIGHLY recommend it.

I'm in book heaven right now. I'm halfway through a book based on the Starcraft computer game series, and I just found a book based on the "mirror mirror" universe from Star Trek (you know, the evil universe where having a goatee means you're evil). Plus, the author I mentioned before (john ringo) just put out another in the "a hymm before battle series". I have more books than I can possibly read at one time. Which is going to make me read through my current one even faster!

Hmm, I think I'll just merge them, how 'bout it? I think it's more of a personal topic than anything where others would be able to share their thoughts on latest books, recomendations etc.

So as soon as I find that other thread I'll merge the two.

*Edit* And done! Continue on... I am a huge fan of books. So when I get a chance to gather my thoughts I'll share ;)

I've always been a HUGE Stephen King fan. Back when everyone was reading other childish books I came to class with Bag of Bones. However I've only read four King novels. But I absolutely adored them. I'm sure you've all heard of the first one,

-Carrie

-The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon

-Bag of Bones

-It

Now a days I read less serious stuff. Fiction novels, currently I just finished a book by Janice Dickinson. The "first" supermodel, it's just a book like a self guide that I thought was hilarious. She wrote a book about her life and I'm thinking about checking that out next.

Hmm, I'm trying to think of books that are smart, it's not coming to me right now lol

Can you recommend a book of Sartre? And I was wondering, have you read Kafka's Trial? Would it be worth reading??

Well, here are some books which I liked:

“The Little Prince”, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry - not only a children's book!!

“The Shadow of the Wind”, Zafon - I couldn't put it away

Orwell's “1984” - a must of course!

“The Reader”, Schlink - interesting story

“In Search of Lost Time”, Proust - probably the longest sentences ever...I like it

“Through a Glass Darkly”, Jostein Gaarder - a tribute to life; simple but lovely

“Faust I”, Goethe - sometimes I'm in the mood for a classic :P

“Snow Falling On Cedars”, Guterson - very well written, very descriptive;
but not recommendable to impatient action-fans ;)

BeckyT - June 29, 2007 07:36 PM (GMT)
I haven't read Kafka's trial. But if you're looking for a Sartre book, I would reccommend Nausea, of course. It's in my room right now waiting for me to finish it.

I just got done reading Blue Bloods by Melissa De La Cruz.

It's about teenage vampires "blue bloods" who go to this prep type school. I really didn't like it & do not recommend it. Unless your into the books like Gossip Girl (which I'm not) with endless fashion talk. There wasn't really much vampire talk until like half way through the book (which is why I got it, I like all the supernatural stuff :P). The idea with the blue bloods story was good, if you just minis all the fashion, prep stuff. I really can't read endless descriptions of prada bags & all. Yeah, okay, I've been wanting to rant on this for days. Shuts up now.

I love reading & right now I'm bookless :(.

CollisionTDGchick9 - July 1, 2007 05:57 PM (GMT)
I highly suggest a book called Companions of the Night. It's by Vivian Vande Velde. It's a really great book that I would read over and over again. It's about a teenage girl named Kerry who goes to get her little brother's stuffed animal at an all night laundry place when she finds herself in the middle of a gang that has capture a vampire. Kerry, thinking that's absolutely ridiculous, helps him escape causing the gang to think she's a vampire too. I won't give away any more though. From my description it sounds absolutely terrible, but trust me, it's an incredible book. It is probably one of the best books i've ever read. And i've read a lot of books.

Anne rice write good stories about vampires.. i only read vampire armand though.. it was good, that was years ago..

Stephen king's IT.. the movie scared the living crap out of me.. i swear i hated clowns for sooo long until i was 13 :P
