Summary: This is Hectors daughter ( Reina) point of view in life with her father, Meeting Diana for the first time and how that s going to affect her life forever.
Disclaimer: Reina's not mine, you could have her if you want but only after the first 7 chapters of this story.
( Theres 7 chapters to this fan fiction)
"Hi, I'm looking for Hector," I told the old man that was standing next to the boxing ring. He was obviously watching the fight that was going on and yelling various things to the shorter man in the ring.
"Over there," he said, pointing across the room. I looked in that direction and saw my father standing next to someone that was beating the speedbag. I smiled and ran across the gym and stood behind him.
"Ay papa!" I exclaimed, causing him to turn around.
"Mi pequeña muchacha!" he yelled, wrapping his arms around me for a tight hug.
"How ya been?" I asked once he'd pulled away.
"Good, good," he replied.
"What's wrong with you Hector?" I heard the girl say that was punching the speedbag. "Ya ain't got no manners?" He laughed and turned to her.
"Sorry, sorry," he said. "Diana this is my daughter Reina, Reina this is Diana, my favorite boxer."
"How ya doin?" Diana said, extending her hand to me. I shook it politely and nodded.
"I'm aright," I said. "So you're the girl boxer I keep hearin about." She laughed roughly.
"That's me. You must be the tomboy daughter I keep hearin about." I also laughed.
"I'm her," I said. Diana, dad, and I made small talk for a few minutes before he told Diana to continue on the speedbag for another round. She sighed heavily, but continued her series of punches. I knew how much she loved boxing from all the stories my dad told me and I respected her for that.
My dad and I headed back to his office which was messy as usual. He sat behind his desk as I sat on another chair in front. He asked me how mom was and how life was down in Panama. I answered all his questions respectively, but for some reason, my mind kept wandering back to Diana and the fact that she was a female boxer. I had plenty of anger inside of me from my parents' divorce and I thought maybe boxing could be an outlet for me. And my dad being a boxing coach made it even easier.
"Dad," I said. He looked up and smiled that fatherly smile. "What do you think of me boxing?" I asked. His smile quickly dropped.
"I think it's a terrible idea," he replied. "I don't wanna see you get hurt."
"I won't get hurt," I argued.
"Yes you will," he interrupted. "I'm not letting you box, the end." He got up and headed out of the office with me following behind him.
"But that's not fair!" I said. He stopped suddenly and turned around.
"I ruined my life with boxing, I'm not gonna let you do the same thing," he said softly. I rolled my eyes.
"If you ruined your life with boxing then why do you teach it?" I questioned. He didn't answer. He just walked off to assist one of his fighters.
I sighed and cracked my knuckles like I always did when I was mad. I looked around and saw a speed bag not being used. I wandered over to it and looked around before I started punching it over and over, releasing all the pent-up anger I had. Before I stopped, I gave it one last punch as hard as I could causing a very loud sound to echo throughout the gym.
"Hey," I heard Diana's voice next to me. I looked at her as she grabbed the speedbag between her hands that were covered with black handwraps. "It didn't do nothin to you," she said. I smiled and let out a deep breath.
"Sorry," I said. "My dad just pisses me off sometimes."
"Yeah, he pisses me off too," she agreed. I laughed this time. "What he do?" she asked.
"He won't lemme box," I vented. She raised her eyebrows and looked down.
"It's a tough sport," she said.
"I can handle it," I stammered, not caring if she was finished. She looked up at me with a lifted eyebrow and a glare so menacing, I quickly became afraid of her. "Damn," I said. "If looks could kill, I'd be dead." She laughed and her glare eased.
"I got an idea," she said.
"What's that?" I asked.
"I'll train you."

"You'll train me?" I asked, making sure I heard her correctly. This coming from a girl who won the amateur championship against a guy, I thought she'd have better things to do.
"Did I stutter?" she joked. I smiled and eased up a bit.
"I just thought..."
"Don't think so much," Diana told me. That was probably the first and best advice I'd ever received. "Do you want me to train you or not?"
"Yeah," I said, excitedly.
"Aright. You don't sweat for me, you're outta my life," she said. "You're dad told me that."
"But how am I gonna train with you without my dad seeing?" I asked.
"He's here Monday's, Wednesday's, and Friday's. I can train you on Tuesday's and Thursday's. Just tell him you'e comin over to my house or somethin."
"Shouldn't be too hard," I quipped. We exchanged numbers and parted ways so she could finish her rounds. I waited around at the gym for my dad to finish with all his trainees before we went home. And there, I met my stepmom for the first time. We talked for a while, my stepmom, my dad, and I when the phone ringing interrupted us. My dad excused himself to answer it.
"Bueno?" he asked. "Diana!" he exclaimed. He listened for a few seconds before he handed me the phone. "She wants to talk to you," he said.
"Hello?" I asked.
"Hey," she said. "You wanna come over?" I quckly agreed. I asked my dad and he said it was fine, so I walked to the school where Diana and I were to meet. She was running late, so I sat on the bleachers in front of the track.
"Reina!" I heard Diana's rough voice call. I looked to my left and saw her standing by the stairs to the bleachers with someone next to her. She called me over and I jogged the little ways to reach them.
"Hey," I breathed like a fool, embarrassing myself as usual.
"This is my brother Tiny," she introduced the boy standing next to her. "He just had to come," she said. As I extended my hand to him, I looked up into his eyes and I was immediately attracted to him. His eyes were such a deep brown and his smile was so sweet.
"It's nice to meet you," he said.
"You too." I tried to conceal my staring eyes, but I couldn't help it. And I think Diana noticed.

( Chapter 3)
We got back to Diana's house where I met her father, Sandro. He wasn't the nicest man in the world, in fact, he didn't even look at me when I was introduced. Diana told me not to pay any attention to him as we headed back to her room. I sat on her bed as she put in some rap CD.
"Where's your mom?" I asked. She turned and looked at me for a minute.
"She killed herself," came the reply. I felt so stupid, I knew I shouldn't have asked anything about her family.
"Sorry," I quickly apologized. She told me I didn't need to be sorry because I didn't know. We changed the subject as quickly as possible to boxing. She said it was tough work and that I had to be very serious about it.
"I am," I said. "I've always been interested in boxing."
"It's not a hobby," she said, smiling. "It's work, but it's fun... if you like to fight, like me."
"Yeah, I had a lotta problems back in Panama," I said, laughing at myself.
"Really?" she asked, genuinely interested. "What happened?"
"I walked in on my boyfriend and my best friend."
"Oh s hit!" she yelled. "What'd you do?!"
"Nothin," I replied. "Until the next day at school. When I saw 'em together, I f uckin wailed on the b itch then went after my boyfriend. It took like 3 teachers to pull me off."
"I'da done the same thing," Diana said. "I almost did do the same thing."
"What happened? Your boyfriend cheat on you, too?" I asked.
"Kinda, but it's a long story."
"Diana!" a man yelled from outside. Diana got up and stuck her out the window.
"Speak of the devil," she said, sounding a little annoyed.
"Who is it?" I asked also getting up.
"Adrian... my ex." I stuck my head out the window and saw Adrian... he wasn't that hard to look at.
"Oh sorry," he said. "I'm Adrian."
"Reina," I yelled back.
"What're you doing here?" Diana asked, her voice full of attitude.
"I wanna talk. Come down," he beckoned.
"I don't think so."
"You better go down there," I said, coming back inside.
"What?!" she squealed. "You lost your mind."
"I don't know if you noticed how sexy that man is," I told her. She laughed.
"Yeah, he's sweet, but..."
"Well go on!" I practically pushed her out the door before she finally agreed to talk to him. I didn't wanna invade her privacy, so I shut the window and looked through her CD's. They were all rap and I wasn't really into that, so I just turned the stereo off. I lay back on her bed and looked up at the ceiling, thinking about what boxing would be like for me.
"Hey," I heard someone say. I sat up and saw Tiny standing in the doorway. I smiled my stupid, embarrassed smile.
"Hi," I cooed.
"Where's Diana?" he asked, walking inside.
"Oh, she's outside talking to Adrian."
"Oh," he said, nodding. "So you're from Panama?" he asked, leaning against the dresser that the stereo was on.
"Yeah, I live with my mom," I replied.
"That's cool. You like it there?"
"Not really. It's boring."
"Tiny!" Diana gasped. She pulled him out the room and told me to wait. A few minutes later, Adrian rushed in followed by Diana then the door slammed and was locked.
"I thought I'd come up and introduce myself the right way," he said, putting his hand out. "I'm Adrian."
"Reina," I laughed, taking his hand.
"And I have no idea how I'm gonna get back outta here," he said. Diana and I laughed before they shared a quick kiss.
"You can always jump out the window," I offered getting another laugh from them.
"Just wait til my dad passes out then you can leave," Diana said, arching an eyebrow. Her look was quite menacing when she did that.
As the night went on, Tiny joined us and we all talked about various things: boxing, our home lives, school. I found myself locking eyes with Tiny once about every five minutes. He was just so sweet and his eyes made me melt. Diana and Adrian, on the other hand, couldn't their hands off each other. I was happy for Diana getting Adrian back. I didn't know much about their relationship or what happened when they broke up, but they seemed great together.
My dad called at about 11:30 wanting me home. He offered to pick me up, but Adrian said he'd give me a ride to which I replied 'ok'. Diana snuck Adrian back outta the house with the help of Tiny again, then he came back in Diana's room as I was leaving.
"It was nice talking to you," I told him.
"You too," he replied. I winked at him before heading out the door and down the stairs. I met Adrian and he led me to his Chevy Nova. I felt very awkward... it would only get worse.

(Ch.4)
We rode in silence on the way to my house for a while. All I thought about was how weird I felt riding with Adrian. I could see outta the corner of my eye him looking at me. I felt my face get hot and my heart beat faster. I was in no way, shape, or form attracted to him. For one: he and Diana had just got back together! And two: he seemed too smooth for me, I wanted someone like Tiny; sweet and polite.
"Why you bein so quiet?" he asked, his accent coming out.
"I don't know," I answered quickly.
"You shouldn't be so silent. You have a nice voice." I swallowed hard. Was he coming onto me?
"Thanks," I spat. I didn't wanna sound too nervous and make him think he was getting to me because he wasn't, he was only making me dislike him even more.
"So Hector's your dad, huh?" he questioned, only trying to make conversation I assumed.
"Yeah."
"That's pretty cool."
"Is it?" I asked. "Because from what I heard you hate my father." He looked at me then back to the road.
"It's not that I hate him..."
"I don't wanna talk about it." He stayed quiet the rest of the way to my dad's house. I thanked him for the ride and quickly got out, heading inside my house.
"Ay muchacha!" my dad yelled, smiling. I waved to him and went straight to my room. I slammed the door the behind me and fell on my bed, thinking about everything: Adrian, Tiny, Diana and training me. I quickly fell asleep in my clothes and on top of my covers.
Later that night at about 9:30, I was awakened by my dad. He told me dinner had been ready for about an hour and he didn't wanna wake me. I thanked him, but declined the food; I wasn't too hungry. The phone rang and it was for me. It was Adrian.
"How did you get this number?" I asked.
"Hector was my trainer for a while, I've had his number," he replied. I rolled my eyes.
"Ok, what do you want?"
"Do you want me to pick you up tomorrow and take you to the gym?" I was ready to say 'no', but then I realized how far the gym was from my house. I reluctantely accepted the offer and asked if Diana was gonna be with us. He answered with a 'yes' and I sighed heavily. I hung up and turned around to take the phone back to the receiver when I ran right into my dad.
"Ay!" I breathed, holding my heaving chest.
"Por qué Adrian le está llamando?" he asked.
"Because he's pickin me up tomorrow. Por qué usted está escuchando adentro en mis llamadas telefónicas?" Whenever dad and I had fights, we'd speak in half English and half Spanish.
"If Adrian wants to talk to my little girl, I'm gonna listen!" he exclaimed.
"I'm not a little girl!" I yelled back. I stormed passed him, tossed the phone on the couch, and ran out the house. I ran down the street until I came to the school. I went up on the bleachers again and waited there, thinking.
"Hey, what're you doing here?" I looked down as I was on the top bleachers and saw Tiny heading up to me.
"Being pissed off," I replied when he sat next to me. He laughed. "My dad givin me a hard time."
"I hear that," he said. I knew what he meant, his father seemed mean.
"What're you doing here?" I asked him.
"I come here to think things over," he answered. "It's peaceful." I nodded in agreement. We sat in silence for a while. I think we were just enjoying each other's company.
As the night went on, Tiny and I laid down on two different bleachers and looked up at the sky. It was really beautiful to look up at all the glimmering jewels called stars. Then there was the moon; so gorgeous. And I had Tiny lying next to me, looking up at the same stars and same moon. Soon after, I fell asleep. When I woke up the next morning, I had Tiny's brown leather jacket around my upperbody. He was still next to me asleep. I didn't know what was happening with us if anything. And I was afraid to find out what would happen with me and Adrian.

(ch.5)
I waited on my porch that day for Adrian to pick me up. When he arrived, Diana wasn't with him... I should've known he was lying. I got in the car anyway because he said he was gonna go pick her up next.
"So you're gonna train with Diana, huh?" he asked.
"Yeah," I replied, nodding.
"That's cool. I think boxing ladies are sexy." I rolled my eyes.
"That's wonderful," I said. He must've detected my strong sarcasm when he didn't reply or say anything else until we got to Diana's apartment. She came out and greeted Adrian with a kiss before we headed out to the Brooklyn Athletic Club.
When we got there, Diana showed me her changing room, which was really a closet. I changed into a pair of Adidas pants and a sports bra with a black muscle shirt over it. I pulled my hair up and walked out to find Diana shadow boxing in front of a large, cracked mirror. She looked at me and smiled.
"Ready?" she asked. I nodded and she instructed me to stand next to her, facing the mirror. I looked at my reflection with a lifted eyebrow and grinded my teeth.
I really hated who I was in the world: a goody-two-shoes, daddy's girl who was afraid to stand up for herself when it came to confrontations. I blamed it on my father more than my mother. He was the one who kept me sheltered when he still lived with us in Panama, when he left, I had no one to teach me how to stand my own ground. Sure, I beat up my ex-boyfriend and friend, but that was out of jealousy and rage. I wanted to know how to fight the right way without hurting myself.
We started with basics: jabs, speedbag, body bag. Everything seemed pretty simple, which is probably the reason why Diana called me a natural boxer. She sat me on the bench and I did 20 quick situps.
"Damn," she said as I was sitting up.
"What?"
"You're more in shape than I was when I first started." I laughed.
"Yeah, I'm a workout freak," I said. I pulled my knees to my chest and rested my chin on them.
"How's it goin over here?" I heard Adrian's ever familiar voice ask. Diana and I looked at him.
"Good," she answered for me. "Reina's a natural."
"She looks like a natural," he said in my direction. I didn't look at him.
Diana and I finished with the day's workout and she offered Adrian to take me home. I strongly protested unless she was gonna be there. She said she couldn't because she had to clean out her closet at the gym. I didn't want her to think anything was going on between Adrian and I, so I accepted and we got in the car. Little did I know this car ride would be the worst night of my life.

We drove in silence, just the way I liked it. As long as Adrian didn't say anything to me we could be friends. But I knew it wouldn't stay that way for long. The tension was so thick, I felt like I couldn't breathe. He shifted forcefully, which threw my head back against the seat. Now I had to say something to him.
"Was there a reason for that?" I asked, full of attitude.
"I was shifting," he replied. I nodded with my eyes wide.
"I noticed." I hated being treated like a moron.
"What's your problem?" he practically yelled.
"You're the problem!" I retorted without thinking, something I was hating.
"What're you talkin about?"
"You're with Diana," I said. "But I see the way you look at me."
"And what way would that be?" he asked, looking at me and smiling.
"Like you're undressing me with your eyes and quite frankly, I'm not attracted to you," I said all in one breath.
"Undressing you with my eyes?!" he exclaimed. "Tu tiene que embromarme," he whispered. I chuckled at his stupidity.
"No, I don't believe I am kidding. And to prove that I'm not, I want you to stop this car and lemme out," I demanded.
"Ok," he agreed. It surprised me, but I was happy I wouldn't have to argue with him. He pulled to the side of the road in an unknown neighborhood. I reached for the door handle, but Adrian snatched my wrist away. I looked at him with a lifted eyebrow.
"You can let go of me now," I said easily. He laughed lightly.
"You're not at all attracted to me?" he asked, his face getting closer to mine. I knew it wasn't gonna be easy getting outta his car, so I decided to play along.
"Well... maybe a little," I said as politely as I could. He smiled and continued to get closer. I playfully pushed him back in his seat and was acting like I was about to get on top of him. When he wasn't really paying attention to what I was doing and just enjoying the ride, I kneed him in his nuts.
"Ah f *ck!" he yelled, holding himself. I jumped off him and scrambled to reach the passenger side door. He grabbed my waist just as I grabbed the door handle. He yanked me back and I began kicking again and swinging my arms. I pulled the handle back and it wouldn't open, it was locked. I couldn't reach the lock because of Adrian's grip on my right arm, but I was a lefty. I was also quite strong. I lifted myself up with my right arm as much as I could before thrusting my left fist through the passenger window.
"B itch!" he screamed in my ear. I'm not sure if he was yelling about his window or about me fighting him. It really didn't matter at this point. I jolted my left elbow back and jacked him in, what I guessed, was his eye. He let go of me long enough for me to climb outta the window and fall hard on the pavement and the glass from the window. I laid their for a few seconds, trying to understand what had just happened. When I came to and sat up, Adrian and his car were gone. I stood.
"Where the h ell am I?" I whispered to myself. I saw a pay phone and I had money, but I didn't know who to call. I couldn't call my dad, he'd kill me, and I didn't know anyone else in Brooklyn. I looked at my hand and it was gushing blood and still had a few glass fragments stuck in my skin. I didn't know what I was gonna do.

Chapter 7. ( For now the last Chapter to this fic)
I started walking down the sidewalk slowly, scared someone was gonna jump out of an alleyway and attack me. My hand was still gushing blood, dripping on the cement as I walked. I hadn't seen another car besides Adrian's in about an hour. I just knew I was f ucked. Then I saw the reflection of headlights in front of me. I turned around and saw a Honda Civic coming toward me. I lifted my good hand in the air and waved them over. The driver was a girl, about my age. She had long, curly dark brown hair and I could tell she was Latina.
"Do you need some help?" she asked.
"Yes, please?" I breathed heavily. She invited me in the car and took off.
"What did you do to your hand?" she asked, looking at it then back to the road.
"Had a little run in with a guy," I answered throatily.
"What guy?"
"His name's Adrian," I replied, forgetting that I didn't know this girl.
"Wait a minute..." she said. "Diana Guzman's Adrian?"
"Yeah, how did you know?" I questioned, looking at her.
"I'm Marisol." I knew I recognized her. She was Diana's best friend.
We talked about what happened with Adrian and I made her promise not to tell Diana or say anything to Adrian. She offered to take me to the hospital, I refused, but she didn't listen. She drove straight to the hospital and took me to the emergency room. They removed the glass, bandaged, and wrapped my hand. Of course, they asked me a million questions and everyone was answered the same way: I DID NOT TRY TO COMMIT SUICIDE!
It made me sick the way the kept trying to get me to admit that I had try to kill myself. I would never do such a thing! I loved my life and the world, and for them to have the audacity to ask that, made me wanna box with em all!
"Any problems at home?" the doctor asked.
"No..." I answered curtly.
"Problems with a significant other?" she continued.
"Yes..." I answered the same way. She looked at him.
"And..." she said.
"I'm not very significant," I told her. There, of course, was a bill for the hospital, but I had em send it to my grandma cuz I knew my dad would kill my ass. And there was another problem: what was I gonna say to Diana? To Adrian, even?! I had no idea.
